TWSBI Pens & Updates

TWSBI released some new products and updates right around the time we were starting to get busy, and I’m sorry we didn’t have more of a chance to share about them! Unfortunately, we’re just gearing up to say good bye to some of them now.

The long awaited red-blue 580 was released – the re-release of the original 540 ROC Limited Edition – and we got a few of the limited quantity. Our stock has dwindled to its last – it’s all we have left! TWSBI released an American version, but we got the original ROC version. If you are set on a nib size, and we’ve run out, your only option is to purchase the pen and an additional nib unit for it to swap out.

We are still petitioning Philip for a Canadian version…

The Mini in White & Rose Gold finish was not originally meant to be a limited edition item, however, TWSBI has pulled it off its line and what we have left is it. I’m pretty sad about seeing this pen go! I believe they may try to bring it back, maybe even as soon as in a few months, but who knows the machinations of TWSBI! Jon actually said that this is a pen I would like, but I wasn’t really paying attention until it arrived and he was right…

Keep in mind that the nib actually has a rose gold finish as well, so if you purchase a mini nib unit to swap, it will fit, but will not be the same finish.

The good news is that the Classic now has a post-able cap! I personally recommend the burgundy (even though I mostly use black and blue ink…)!

Shop Updates & New Pens

Faber-Castell Ambition Fountain Pen in Pearwood

This January has been a great and very, very busy month for us! We had thought after the holiday rush things would really begin to slow down. Especially with all of our of stock items, we had thought we would get a few weeks to slowly stock back up.

DO Design was a terrific – a lot of new faces in the neighbourhood and in the shop. The table on display in our shop by Derek McLeod even got a “Design Lines Loves” tag, which I think they only had out to a hundred displays. Really, more terrific for Derek than us, but still great! The table is made out of steel and then plated with copper, so very heavy – I had someone ask if they could “tip it over” to see how heavy it is. I had to use some teacher-judgement-call in saying “Uhm, I don’t think so…”

We’ve had a few people ask about Super (he’s not even in the shop yet, but he’s more popular than us!), since we said we were aiming for January to begin bringing him in during store hours. We haven’t even had time to bring him in for after-hours training because we’ve been busy mopping floors and packing orders. That has been wonderful, but Super…is definitely still not ready for prime time.

TWSBI Micarta Fountain Pen

If you’ve been in our shop you may have seen some of these new pens, but it’s taken us a while to get them up. We now have a few Faber-Castell pens, TWSBI’s Micarta, as well as some new Kaweco pens – the Allrounder in Red and the Al-Sport in Blue. We’re still waiting for the Liliput to come back into stock so we can get some pictures of it and get it up on the site – we’re hoping for early February.

And I hope you all had a Happy Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year! I’m a little late to the wishing, but we’re looking forward to a very tasty Chinese New Year dinner with my parents tonight, so my celebration is still going on!

New in Store – TWSBI!

We’re constantly trying to find what brands you’d like to see, and one of the most requested one has finally come in!

TWSBI has been in the works for quite a while, and I didn’t want to say outright that we were going to be able to carry them until we actually got our order in – you never know what sort of customs delays or manufacturing delays might come up.

Philip from TWSBI has been great to deal with, and we’re excited to – I hope – start bringing more and more TWSBI products to Canada. Please let us know if there are any TWSBI products in particular you’re looking for, and we’ll try our best to get it on our next order.

We’ve started with TWSBI’s Diamond 580 and the Diamond Mini, as well as spare nibs in case you already have one or want to try a different size. We have both pens in EF, F, M, B, 1.1 and 1.5, as well as spare nibs for both pens.

 

Things have been a little busy as I’ve been wrapping up the school year and as the store has been finishing up renovations – so I’m hoping to get more reviews up of both of these pens as well as of some of the other products we have soon. Check back!

And a quick update on the store renovations! The renovations are almost done, and we’re hoping to start setting up our furniture and products over the long weekend. It’s been a little hectic as we’ve been meeting with electricians and arranging for deliveries, but the end is in sight!

We’re still planning for opening Tuesday, July 2nd, but we’ll keep you updated!
